Safari Overview ↓
What Makes This Kruger Safari So Epic?
This will give you plenty of opportunities to see the park’s magnificent wildlife, which includes lions, leopards, rhino, elephants and buffalo aka, the Big 5, as well as a host of other animals! For the birders, there are many stunning birds to spot along the way - like the majestic bateleur or perhaps even the grey-headed kingfisher.
The varied landscapes of Kruger Park are truly a sight to behold, in particular, Olifants River and Sabi River, both of which we’ll pass on our journey.
You’ll also be able to enjoy delicious Breakfasts and Dinners on your Kruger Park safari and during your stay at Outlook Lodge Masorini, where we’ll stay for two nights, giving you plenty of time to explore the town of Phalaborwa and its many attractions.
We want you to make the most of your time in the Kruger National Park, which is why our 5 Day Kruger Park safari allows guests to enjoy not one but Two Full Day Game Drives! You’ll travel from the south to the north of the park and back, as well as enjoy a SANParks Sunset Drive and a Morning Game Drive on your last day with Outlook Safaris.
What to Expect ↓
Day 1: Pretoriuskop Camp, Kruger National Park
You’ll begin your Kruger Park safari at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp, located in the Kruger National Park. From the moment you arrive at our camp, until the last day of your safari adventure in South Africa, the Outlook Safaris team is dedicated to making your experience an unforgettable one! You’ll be given a warm welcome by the team, before being shown to your accommodation for the night - a comfy Meru tent.
You can then use the afternoon to relax, explore the camp or just enjoy and appreciate the charm and ambiance of the Kruger’s oldest rest camp, before you embark on your Sunset Drive with SANParks. There are a number of species that only make an appearance in the evening in the Kruger, and this drive gives you the perfect opportunity to try and find them. Unlike the tour operators, SANParks’ guides and vehicles are allowed to stay in the park after gate closing times. It’s a truly unique drive and is something that should be experienced at least once, while you’re in Kruger Park.
In the evening, you'll embark on an adventure of a different kind - a culinary one! Our chefs will prepare several South African favourites for you to enjoy, before you head off to bed for a good night's sleep. (Dinner included)
Day 2: Pretoriuskop Rest Camp to Outlook Lodge Masorini
Our second day on this adventurous Kruger safari is filled with a full day game drive through the park, seeing and exploring more of it than you’ve ever dreamed! Our breakfast on this morning is a packed one. We’ll then make our way north, from Pretoriuskop Rest Camp towards the Skukuza Camp Picnic Site.
As we’re sure you’ve seen, the terrain around Pretoriuskop is dynamic and varied. We’ll make a stop at Skukuza Picnic Site to enjoy our packed breakfast before journeying on towards Tshokwane Picnic Site.
As we head past Skukuza Rest Camp - a busy and bustling camp - you’ll see the environment around you changing, whereby smaller clusters of trees and vast grassland becomes forest-like terrain, containing many tall, green trees and lots of shaded areas for the wildcats to hide during the blistering, sunny days. A sight that you might find particularly interesting at this point in your drive is along the banks of the Sabi River - it’s lush and rocky, and guests often experience fantastic sightings of different types of antelope , elephants and giraffe, who come to the river to quench their thirst. Don’t forget to look for impala, vervet monkeys, waterbuck, zebra and duiker along this route, too, as well as crocodiles near the river!
Closer to Tshokwane, we’ll see more open fields, dotted with trees and even a sudden and fleeting flurry of termite mounds, which is a stunning sight in itself. You’ll also notice that the terrain is more dense here and that there are horizon-lined trees in the distance. Hint hint: in our experience, dry riverbeds make for the perfect spot to… well… spot, leopards. There may also be a klipspringer or two, hidden in the rocky structures on the side of the road!
For the birders, you’ll notice more and more colourful and lively birdlife, as the drive continues.
Once the terrain becomes flatter and easier to peer through, you’ll be able to look into and around the sporadic array of trees in front of you, and perhaps find some wildlife lurking about.
After arriving at the picnic site at Tshokwane, we’ll get a chance to walk around the site, enjoy a cup of coffee or grab a little lunch (own expense). Then, it’ll be off towards Satara Rest Camp.
Keep an eye out for some truly terrific sightings just after Tshokwane and be sure to look under the trees, in the shaded areas, too. We’ll see a varied landscape here, with uneven, mountainous terrain in the beginning and then flatter terrain afterwards. Each type is truly beautiful in its own way and make for a beautiful backdrop for this leg of our Kruger Park safari. As we pass the gorgeous green and gold scenery around us, we’ll also keep an eye out for kudu, elephants, buffalo, eland, giraffe, baboons and the colourful lilac-breasted roller, which is often found perched at the top of a tree.
Upon passing Satara Rest Camp, the terrain becomes flat and we’ll see only golden-yellow grassland on either side of us. This scene is also often filled with a herd of zebra and many giraffe and wildebeest wandering in-between them, calmly moving around one another. It’s the perfect place to feel a world away and completely at peace - a picture-perfect scene of the magnificent African savannah.
Another scenic highlight on this trip comes just after this, when we get to drive over a bridge, overlooking the incredibly-beautiful Olifants River! Here, we’ll see many green isles in the river where there are often herds of impala grazing. The river is a stunning sight, and is something we’ll see again as we drive on towards Letaba Rest Camp, which is the last stop on our Kruger safari before we get to Phalaborwa Gate.
With the river following us, alongside the road, on our left, we’ll then see nothing but tree-covered terrain, with the sand on the ground becoming much darker and the trees, just a little more bare.
We’ll make a stop at Letaba Rest Camp to stretch our legs and perhaps even explore the camp’s impressive Elephant Museum (time dependant). On our final leg through the park, we’ll see the terrain change dramatically. At first, there will be green, rocky, mountainous terrain with Olifants river in the distance on the left, and then flat terrain with mopane trees for miles. After this, the landscape becomes littered with huge termite mounds - the entire journey is the perfect illustration of the varied scenery that you can experience on a drive through the park, which also brings to a close our Kruger safari.
Just before we reach the gate though, we may get the chance to take a detour towards Sable Dam, where both predators and different types of herbivores often gather to quench their thirst towards the end of the day. We will exit the park at Phalaborwa Gate and head towards Outlook Lodge Masorini - our accommodation for the evening.
As an added treat, you may even see waterbuck, warthogs, duikers and bush babies moving around the lodge premises. Following a welcome by the lodge manager, we’ll show you to your room and you’ll then join us later in the dining area/lapa for an appetising dinner. (Breakfast & Dinner included)
Day 3: Exploring Outlook Lodge Masorini & Phalaborwa
After a restful sleep, we’ll meet up for an early morning game drive in Kruger Park. There's so much to explore and hopefully, if you haven't seen all the animals that you want to see, you'll see them on this drive.
When we get back to the lodge, it'll be time for breakfast in the dining area/lapa. After some yummy fruit and yoghurt, and a tasty hot breakfast, you’ll have the rest of the day at leisure.
The Kruger Park offers several activities, or you could visit one of the many interesting attractions around Phalaborwa. There’s a craft brewery tour in town, a river safari on the Olifants and more. Be sure to enquire with your consultant/agent about these activities, when booking your Kruger Park safari.
In the evening, we’ll meet back at the lodge to chat about what you experienced during the day and to enjoy a wholesome and delectable dinner. (Breakfast & Dinner included)
Day 4: Outlook Lodge Masorini to Pretoriuskop
Get ready for another exciting drive through Kruger Park! After breakfast, we’ll jump into our vehicle and head into the park through Phalaborwa Gate, and then on towards Pretoriuskop Camp, where we started our Kruger safari.
It's said that there are about 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals species in the Kruger, and because each sighting is unique, expect to create many more safari memories on today’s drive. We head back down towards the South of the park, passing many of the diverse landscapes and terrain that you saw on your drive on the second day, and we’ll make several stops along the way so that you can buy refreshments and souvenirs, and enjoy some lunch (own expense).
Our guides are also passionate about what they do and have a love and respect for the African bush... and they’re always willing to teach our guests about the park while they experience it’s beauty firsthand.
After reaching our campsite at Pretoriuskop, our impressive chefs will prepare an authentic South African dinner for you in the evening. Expect a buzz and an animated atmosphere in our dining tent - our guests always use dinner time to get to know one another and to share more on the day’s sightings and their experience in the Kruger so far. (Breakfast & Dinner included)
Day 5: Saying Goodbye to Kruger Park
We’ll wake with the sun as it lights up the Kruger bush around us and start our day with a Morning Game Drive.
The OSVs used on our Kruger safaris are designed to ensure that guests see the park’s wildlife from the best possible viewpoint. Your game drive is around 3 hours long, where we’ll do our best to find the well-known Big 5 and many of the Kruger’s other unique and interesting animals.

Important Notes ↓
Our 5 Day Kruger Park Explorer Safari only departs on select days, namely Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
We make use of facilities and accommodation situated inside the Kruger National Park and do not stay outside the Kruger, unless forced to do so because of availability. This excludes your accommodation at Outlook Lodge Masorini, which is located outside the park.
It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.
Although we welcome children on our safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on our normal game drives. This will be entirely up to the guide’s discretion and will be in order to ensure a pleasurable game drive for all our guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. We do not offer babysitting and as such one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private game drives for families can be arranged at an extra charge.
Guests flying out of Kruger Park Gateway Airport in Phalaborwa on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 12:00 (domestic) or 13:00 (international) in order to give us enough time to get you to the airport. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge. Outlook’s consultants are available to assist in booking your flights on your behalf.
