Safari Overview

Experience the beauty of the Kruger National Park with us on an unforgettable 5 Day Budget Kruger Park safari! Better still, this package includes a SANParks Bush Walk, allowing you to get really close to nature. On a safari to Kruger Park, you can hope to spot not only the Big Five, but also kudu, bushbuck, hyena, wild dogs, cheetah as well as perhaps the African fish eagle, pied kingfishers and ground hornbills!

As an added bonus, you can embark on an optional day tour that takes you along the epic Panorama Route, where you can visit Three Rondavels in the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck Potholes, God’s Window and more! It's at an additional cost but definitely a great way to explore and make the most of your time in the Mpumalanga province, where the Kruger National Park is located.

To round off your safari experience, delicious breakfasts and dinners give you ample time to get to know your fellow travelers and swap sighting stories. In the evening, we get to take in our surroundings as well as truly appreciate the peace and tranquility of the African bush.

What to Expect

Day 1: Gauteng to Kruger National Park

We leave on your Kruger safari in the early morning on Day 1, from Johannesburg - our shuttle departure point. The journey takes us through the Highveld area, then down the escarpment and through the charming Lowveld area. We stop for lunch en-route (which will be for your own expense) and reach the Kruger National Park in the afternoon.

You will go out on your first Kruger Park safari (Sunset drive) after taking a moment to settle into your accommodation. A Sunset Drive is a unique experience and introduces you to the Kruger's nocturnal animals. SANParks' rangers are also allowed to return to the camp after the normal gate closing times. These game drives take place in one of the Kruger Park’s vehicles with one of their rangers, and it's also important to remember that because this is not a private wildlife safari, there will probably be other guests on the drive. (Children under 6 years of age are not permitted on open vehicle drives.)

An appetising dinner will then be served in the evening, at our camp. Here, you'll also get to dine with your fellow guests and share your sighting of the day! (Dinner included)

Days 2, 3 and 4: A Full Day in Kruger National Park

Kruger Park safaris are all about early mornings, as well as getting out into the bush and seeing the animals! The time you depart on your game drive varies according to the seasons and camp gate opening times. Before we leave, we'll have some tea or coffee with snacks, and then set off on our morning Kruger safari. It takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, and because your guide has an intimate knowledge of the park, it helps a great deal in coming across those brilliant wildlife sightings!

As an added bonus, on one of your mornings, you will be joining a guided SANParks Bush Walk with an experienced game ranger. It’s the perfect opportunity to see the Kruger National Park in a completely new and unique way, and is a must-do.

Upon returning to camp, brunch will be ready. You'll have the time after this at leisure and can perhaps enjoy a swim, explore the shop at the camp - where you can find African curios, general food items and drinks, take a walk around the camp, or simply relax and catch up on sleep in your accommodations.

Also, be sure to bring your binoculars – the Kruger National Park is a bird watcher’s paradise!

After your leisure time, we'll go on our second game drive of the day - an afternoon Kruger safari. All our game drives are conducted in specially-adapted, 4×4 open safari vehicles so you're sure to have a memorable drive with the best possible vantage point at wildlife sightings. In the evening, we'll relax, chat and enjoy an appetising, authentic South African dinner at our camp.
(Breakfast & Dinner included)

Day 5: Kruger Park to Gauteng

The final day of your Kruger Park safari will be your last chance to see the Big 5 safari animals that you haven't as yet. After breakfast, we return to Johannesburg. The transfer back takes at least 6 hours and guests are advised to sleep over in Johannesburg on this night. (Breakfast included)

Morning Walk

A walk in Kruger Park affords guests the opportunity to experience the bush from a totally different perspective. Get ready to get up close and personal with Africa's wild animals, insects, trees and birds. Qualified trail guides take you on a 3-hour walk where there is chance you could come across the Big 5 on foot, however, the focus is not on Big Five encounters but rather smaller and often very interesting aspects of the Kruger that can only be enjoyed by walking through the bush. This activity is available at no extra charge but needs to be pre-booked with your consultant when you confirm your Kruger safari tour with us. Please note that this activity is also dependent on availability.

** Terms & Conditions apply ** **

Vehicles Used

Transfers from and to the airport, as well as to the Kruger National Park, is in a 12-seater bus, and game drives take place in open safari vehicles, offering guests the ultimate wildlife safari experience. Our vehicles also provide guests with the highest possible levels of safety and comfort.

Optional Extras

Our full day Panorama Route day tour covers the best stops on this famous South African sightseeing route. Included is Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window and the glass elevator near the town of Graskop. This day tour is available at an additional cost and needs to be pre-booked with your consultant when you confirm your Kruger safari with us. If you choose to do the Panorama Route, you forfeit your morning and afternoon game drives in Kruger Park as there is not enough time to include both. You also won't be able to book a Panorama Route tour whilst on safari. (Kindly note that this excursion is not available on the first or last day of your Kruger National Park safari due to time constraints). All entry fees and the glass elevator are included in the price. Lunch is excluded.

Please note that optional extras that are pre-booked are non-refundable in the event that you decide to no longer participate in the activity.

Important Notes

On our Kruger Budget Safaris, we make use of facilities and accommodation situated inside the Kruger National Park and do not stay outside Kruger, unless forced to do so because of availability.

It is important to note that this is not a private safari and there will probably be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.

Please note that Sunset Drive times are subject to change and availability on the day. These drives are conducted by one of their rangers and in one of their vehicles. There will most likely be other guests on this drive. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed on open safari vehicles.

Although we welcome children on our Kruger Park safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on our normal game drives. This will entirely be at the guide’s discretion and is done to ensure a pleasurable Kruger safari for all our guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a custom bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. We do not offer babysitting services and, as such, one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private safaris for families can be arranged at an extra charge.

Guests flying out of O.R. Tambo International Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19:00 (domestic) or 20:00 (international) in order to give us enough time to get you to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee our arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day, we will not be held responsible for reimbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance, at an extra cost.
