Safari Overview ↓
What Makes This Kruger Safari So Epic?
Along the way, you’ll have countless opportunities to spot the famous Big 5 as well as cheetah, impala, kudu, wild dogs, hyena and a whole host of birds, including the beautiful lilac-breasted roller or even the southern-ground hornbill.
From open grassland, to lush, green terrain, to mountainous landscapes - each one is home to different types of mammal and bird species. Other captivating sights on this safari include Olifants River and Sabi River, both of which offer breathtaking views!
Breakfast and Dinner is included in your package during your time in the Kruger National Park as well as at African VistaLodge Masorini, located in Phalaborwa in the Limpopo province, and you’ll also get to go on a Sunset Drive with a South African National Parks’ guide while in the park.
What to Expect ↓
Day 1: Pretoriuskop Camp, Kruger National Park
Your Kruger safari experience begins at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park. Rest assured that from the moment you arrive at African Vista Safaris’ camp, until the very last day of your South African adventure with us, our team is dedicated to making your safari an exciting and memorable one! Following a warm and friendly welcome from the staff at the camp, you’ll be shown to your accommodation for the evening - a well-equipped and comfy Meru tent.
Once you’ve settled in and had a moment to take in the charm and character of the Kruger’s oldest rest camp, you'll get ready for your SANParks Sunset Drive. Your game drive, which is conducted in a SANParks vehicle, is approximately 3 hours long and the guides get to return after the park gate closes.
After the drive, you’ll head back to the camp where our chefs will prepare a delicious, truly South African dinner for you. There’s usually a buzz and air of excitement at dinnertime as guests chat to one another about the day’s sightings as well as what’s in store during the rest of their adventure in the Kruger. (Dinner included)
Day 2: Pretoriuskop Rest Camp to African VistaLodge Masorini
If your first day in the park wasn’t adventurous enough, you’ll enjoy what can only be described as a full day game drive through the Kruger National Park today, exploring more of it than you ever dreamed! With a packed breakfast in-hand, we’ll make our way north, from Pretoriuskop Camp towards the picnic site at Skukuza Rest Camp.
As you’ll know from your previous day’s game drive, the area around Pretoriuskop is dynamic and takes you through several different types of terrain. We’ll then stop at Skukuza Picnic Site on this Kruger safari, to enjoy our packed breakfast before continuing on to Tshokwane Picnic Site.
As we drive further on and past Skukuza Rest Camp, one of the busiest and most bustling of all the camps in the Kruger National Park, you’ll notice the environment around you changing from smaller clusters of trees and grassland to forest-like terrain with plenty of tall, green trees and shaded areas for the wildcats to take refuge during the hot, sunny days. A particularly beautiful sight at this point in your journey is the banks of the Sabi River, which is lush and rocky and can often hold fantastic sightings of elephants, different types of antelope and giraffe, who come to the river to enjoy a midday drink. On this Kruger Park Explorer Safari, be sure to keep a lookout for impala, vervet monkeys, waterbuck, zebra and duiker along this route, and crocs near the river!
Closer to Tshokwane, you’ll notice open fields, dotted with trees and a sudden and fleeting flurry of termite mounds, which make for quite a sight. The terrain is more dense here and you’ll see horizon-lined trees in the distance. Hint hint: dry riverbeds can be the perfect spot to… well… spot, leopards. And you may even see a klipspringer or two in the rocky structures along the side of the road!
For the birders, you’ll also most certainly start to see more colourful and lively birdlife on your Kruger safari from here onwards.
As the terrain becomes flatter and easier to navigate with your eyes, you’ll have the chance to carefully peer through the sporadic array of trees and find any wildlife that may be lurking about.
Upon arriving at Tshokwane Picnic Site, we’ll have some time to walk around the site, and grab a cup of coffee or a little lunch (own expense), before we head off towards Satara Rest Camp.
The area just after Tshokwane has been known to hold some truly terrific sightings, so be sure to look in the shaded areas under the trees as we go. The landscape here varies with uneven, mountainous terrain at first and flatter terrain later on. Both are equally beautiful and make for a breathtaking backdrop for our drive through the park. As we pass the green and gold scenery on either side of you, lookout for elephants, eland, kudu, buffalo, baboons, giraffe and an ever-beautiful lilac-breasted roller, perched at the top of the trees.
Once we pass Satara Rest Camp on this Kruger Park safari, the land becomes flat and we’ll see nothing but golden-yellow grassland all around us - often filled with a herd of zebra and several giraffe and wildebeest in between, harmoniously moving around one another. It easy to feel completely at peace and a world away as we drive through this picture-perfect scene of the majestic African bush.
As we continue on, another scenic highlight on this trip comes when we drive over a bridge, overlooking the epic and impressive Olifants River! Looking down, we’ll even get to see several green isles in the river where you may even find impala grazing. The river is a spectacular sight, and is something we’ll see again as we continue to Letaba Rest Camp - the final stop on our journey before we reach Phalaborwa Gate.
As the river follows us, alongside the road, on our left, we head towards tree-covered terrain, where the sand on the ground becomes darker and the trees, just a little more bare.
When we stop at Letaba Rest Camp, you’ll get some time to stretch your legs and perhaps explore the Elephant Museum at the camp. Then we continue on our final leg through the park, where the terrain changes quite dramatically from green, rocky, mountainous terrain with Olifants river in the distance on the left, to flat terrain with mopane trees for miles and then a landscape littered with great termite mounds. It’s a brilliant illustration of the diverse scenery that you can experience on a Kruger safari and brings to a close our drive through the park.
Just before we reach the gate, we’ll take a turn towards Sable Dam, where we can often see both predators and different types of herbivores gathering to quench their thirst in the blazing, Kruger sun. We then exit the park at Phalaborwa Gate and drive towards African VistaLodge Masorini, where we’ll be spending the evening.
Guests can also often enjoy seeing waterbuck, warthogs, duikers and bush babies moving around the camp. After a welcome by the manager, you’re shown to your room and you’ll then join us back in the dining area/lapa for a tasty dinner. (Breakfast & Dinner included)
Day 3: Exploring African VistaLodge Masorini & Phalaborwa
After a great night’s rest, we'll start our morning with a guided game drive, exploring Kruger Park and doing our best to find as many of its many incredible wildlife and bird species as we can.
We’ll meet back in the dining area/lapa afterwards for a two-course breakfast. After fuelling up on fruit and yoghurt, and an amazing hot breakfast, you’ll have the rest of this day at leisure with the option of perhaps visiting one of the many intriguing attractions around Phalaborwa.
The Kruger Park offers night drives as well. There’s also a craft brewery tour in town, a river safari on the Olifants and more, so enquire with your consultant/agent about these activities, when booking your Kruger safari.
In the evening, we’ll gather back at the lodge to chat about the day’s happenings and to enjoy a perfectly-prepared and wholesome South African dinner. (Breakfast & Dinner included)
Day 4: Saying Goodbye to Phalaborwa
We rise with the sun as it lights up the African bush around us and start our day with a filling breakfast. From here, we say Hamba Kahle and Thank You for joining us on this grand adventure! (Breakfast included)

Important Notes ↓
Our 4 Day Kruger Park Explorer Safari only departs on select days, namely Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
We make use of facilities and accommodation situated inside the Kruger National Park and do not stay outside the Kruger, unless forced to do so because of availability. This excludes your accommodation at African VistaLodge Masorini, which is located outside the park.
It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.
Although we welcome children on our safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on our normal game drives. This will be entirely up to the guide’s discretion and will be in order to ensure a pleasurable game drive for all our guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. We do not offer babysitting and as such one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private game drives for families can be arranged at an extra charge.
Guests flying out of Kruger Park Gateway Airport in Phalaborwa on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 12:00 (domestic) or 13:00 (international) in order to give us enough time to get you to the airport. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge. Outlook’s consultants are available to assist in booking your flights on your behalf.
