Your tented accommodation is also situated on an elevated platform, with uninterrupted views of the incredible open bushveld around you.
Vehicles Used On This Safari
All of our game drives take place in an open safari vehicle (OSV) to allow guests to see and experience all that the bush has to offer.
Transfers to and from the lodge or the airport are done in a 12-seater bus.
Day 1: Your truly African safari awaits
We begin our Sabi River & Kruger Park safari at our shuttle departure point in Johannesburg. Your departure time varies but is usually between 07:30 and 08:30. Rest assured that our team will communicate more specific times to guests closer to the time of the safari.
As for your journey to Outlook Lodge Sabi River, it’s an incredibly scenic one that takes you past many of South Africa’s dynamic and colourful landscapes, including open fields and mountainous terrain. The drive to our camp is via the highveld and then further on towards the Lowveld area. At some point, we’ll also stop to buy lunch and/or snacks (own expense).
The lodge is located in the heart of the bush, bordering the Kruger National Park, and around 6km from Paul Kruger Gate.
Once you arrive there, you’ll be welcomed by the Outlook Safaris team before being shown to your accommodations so you can unpack and relax a little before your first game drive.
After getting to know the camp and taking a moment to enjoy the beauty of your surroundings, you’ll get ready for your Sunset Drive with South African National Parks (SANParks) inside the Kruger National Park, which offers you the opportunity to try and spot wildlife that are most active during the early evening or at night. We will transfer to your departure point as well as pick you up after your game drive.
It’s a great introduction to the park and SANParks’ rangers will also be able to share some interesting information with you, including about the abundant bird and plant life in the Kruger.
After your drive, we’ll bring you back to Outlook Lodge Sabi River for a delicious dinner. All meals are served in our specially-designed dining area which is communal and allows you to get to know your fellow Kruger safari guests. Our chefs will also introduce themselves as well as the traditionally-South African dishes that you’ll be enjoying for the evening. (Dinner included)
Days 2 to 4: Game drives and an unforgettable bush escape
The next few days on safari can be a truly magical time and allow you to spend as much time as possible experiencing the uniqueness of the bush. Between game drives and the relaxed atmosphere of the lodge, you’ll get to fully experience what it means to embark on an authentic and timeless South African safari.
Each morning starts off nice and early, allowing you to not only see the sun rise over the bush but to spot several species of wildlife as they begin their day. Before we leave on our morning game drive though, you’ll get to enjoy a strong cup of coffee or tea and snacks, to keep you going until breakfast. Then it’s off to the Kruger National Park!
We conduct all our game drives in specially-designed open safari vehicles (OSVs) that offer our guests the best possible game viewing experience. Our guides are also FGASA-registered and knowledgeable on all that the park has to offer. They’ll do their best to share interesting information with you as well as help you spot the animals and birds that you’d like to.
Game drives on a Kruger Park safari are approximately 3 to 4 hours long and give you plenty of time to explore the park. It doesn’t hurt to let your guide know what animals you look forward to seeing on the drive - while these sightings aren’t guaranteed, our guides will do their best to try and help you find them.
After the drive, we’ll head back to Outlook Lodge Sabi River via Paul Kruger Gate for breakfast. Guests will get to enjoy a cold and hot breakfast, prepared with love and care by our culinary team at the lodge. You’ll then get the opportunity to relax, after your early wake-up.
During this time, why not look out for some of South Africa’s well-known wildlife species wandering around the camp? As it borders the Kruger National Park, guests often get to see wildlife like elephant, buffalo, hippo and many antelope species here. Hyenas and leopards are also found at the lodge.
Lunch will be served later on in the day.
In the afternoon, you’ll get ready for your second game drive of the day, which is conducted by our team in one of our OSVs. Before we leave the camp, you’ll be able to grab a snack and something to drink in our dining tent - remember to fill up a water bottle before you go.
If there are any animals that you haven’t seen as yet but would like to, hopefully you’ll get to see them on your afternoon drive in the Kruger National Park. It’s important to remember that park gate opening and closing times change based on the different seasons so the time you go on your game drive and return to the lodge will vary.
In the evening, we’ll gather together in our dining tent for dinner. Our chefs will introduce the menu to you before you dig in. Dinner time is a social affair and is a great opportunity to find out what your fellow guests saw on their game drive. Afterwards, you’ll get ready for a great night’s rest in our comfortable tented accommodation. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)
Day 5: Your final day on safari
Early mornings are what South African safaris are all about. Once you’re up and ready, you’ll meet our team and your fellow guests in the dining area for coffee, tea and snacks. We’ll then head to the Kruger National Park for your final game drive.
After an exciting morning of exploring, we’ll return to Outlook Lodge Sabi River for breakfast. After breakfast, you’ll get to say your goodbyes to the Outlook Safaris team at the lodge before beginning your journey back to Johannesburg.
The drive usually takes between 6 and 7 hours and we’ll stop en-route for lunch (own expense). Due to the fact that we can’t guarantee what time we’ll arrive in Johannesburg, guests are encouraged to rather stay the night and book any flights for the next day. (Breakfast included)
Our full day Panorama Route tour covers the best sights of this famous South African sightseeing route. We will include the Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window and the glass elevator near the town of Graskop. This tour is available at an additional cost of ZAR 795.00 per person and needs to be pre-booked with your consultant when you confirm your safari with us. If you choose to do the Panorama Route, you forfeit your morning and afternoon drive in the Kruger Park as there is not enough time to include both activities. You cannot book a Panorama Route tour whilst on safari. (Kindly note that this excursion is not available on the first or last day of your safari due to time constraints). All entry fees and the glass elevator are included in the price. Lunch is excluded.
Please note that optional extras that are pre-booked are non-refundable in the event that you decide to no longer participate in the activity.
On our safaris, we make use of facilities and accommodation bordering the Kruger National Park, however, all game drives are conducted inside the park.
It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.
Please note that sunset game drive times are subject to change and availability on the day. These drives are conducted by SANParks, by one of their rangers and in one of their vehicles. There will most likely be other guests on this drive. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed on SANParks open game drive vehicles.
Although we welcome children on our safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on our normal game drives. This will be entirely up to the guide’s discretion and will be in order to ensure a pleasurable game drive for all our guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. We do not offer babysitting and as such one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private game drives for families can be arranged at an extra charge.
Guests flying out of O.R. Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19:00 (domestic) or 20:00 (international) in order to give us enough time to get you to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee our arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day we will not be held responsible for reimbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected. Guests flying out of Nelspruit on the last day may, depending on their flight details, not have enough time to see the Panorama Route. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge.
Testimonials and Guest Reviews
I did the 2 night, 3 day camping safari. The guides, camp, food, tents, drive times all exceeded my expectations. The guides are really knowledgeable and friendly. The camp has a welcoming atmosphere, laid back flow with excellent chefs. There is a shop where you can get anything you need. I don't recommend adding on the night drive it is hard to see anything.
Our tour of Kruger, Swaziland and Hluhluwe was a wonderful holiday. The organisation was superb and the expertise of the guides was first class. It is hard to absorb everything we saw and learned, from baby elephants and lion cubs to wild dogs, over 100 bird species and many, many rhinoceros families. The guides, particularly Olivier, were patient, knowledgeable and clear
Just arrived from a trip of a lifetime with Kruger wildlife safaris. It has been a dream of mine to do a safari since my grandfather introduced me to the world of travel when I was young. From the moment your picked up in the private transfer van & taken to the camp that's located in southern Kruger national park I knew this was going to be a great experience.
