Vehicles Used On This Safari

Our game drives are structured with the comfort of our guests in mind and, thus, are conducted in an open safari vehicle (OSV). This allows our guests to enjoy an uninhibited view of the wildlife in Kruger Park. Transfers between locations are usually conducted in a 12-seater bus.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Your South African safari begins

Your Sabi River & Kruger Park safari experience departs from Johannesburg between 07:30 and 08:30. Please note though that our team does communicate more specific pick-up times to guests closer to the time of the safari.

You’ll enjoy an incredibly scenic journey to the camp that takes you through some of the most captivating routes around, whereby you’ll pass open fields as well as lush, mountainous terrain. Travelling through the highveld at first, your journey will then take you towards the charming Lowveld area. We’ll also stop at some point along the way to get something to eat for lunch (own expense).

We’ll then arrive at Outlook Lodge Sabi River at some point in the afternoon - a secluded lodge that is located about 6km outside of the Kruger National Park’s Paul Kruger Gate.

Upon arriving at the camp, our team will welcome you before showing you to your accommodations. Then, after some relaxation time and a chance to take in the tranquility of the bushveld around you, you’ll go on your first Kruger safari game drive - a SANParks Sunset Drive with a park ranger inside Kruger Park. Our team will also transfer you to your departure point.

The great thing about a Sunset Drive is that it gives you the opportunity to try and find some of the more well-known nocturnal species in the park, including the big cats. Your South African National Parks ranger will also do his or her best to provide you with info about the park itself, plus the variety of bird and plant life that call it home.

Our team will then pick you up and bring you back to Outlook Lodge Sabi River for dinner, which is served in our dining area. You’ll get to enjoy traditional and authentic meals with the open bush and a starry sky as the backdrop. (Dinner included)

Days 2 & 3: An authentic out-of-Africa experience

The day begins with an early wake-up and a cup of coffee or tea with snacks. Shortly after this, you’ll go on your first game drive of the day in Kruger Park. Our specially-adapted open safari vehicles (OSVs) are your transport to and from the park as well as during the actual game drive in the park.

One of our knowledgeable guides will conduct your Kruger safari game drive, which is usually between 3 and 4 hours long and allows you to learn more about this phenomenal South African game reserve and the wildlife and birdlife that live here, not to mention the famous Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo).

You’ll return to the lodge via Paul Kruger Gate, after your game drive, for a delicious breakfast prepared by our very own chefs. They are well-trained and do their best to prepare hearty and tasty meals. You’ll then get to spend some time relaxing at the camp before lunch.

While you’re at camp, be sure to look out for some well-known wildlife species roaming around - this is because our camp borders the Kruger National Park and animals from the park often pay us a visit. Elephants, buffalo, hippos and many antelope species have been spotted at the camp as well as hyenas and leopards.

You’ll then get ready for your second game drive of the day. As with the morning one, we’ll all meet in the dining tent for snacks before we depart for the Kruger National Park. This game drive will offer you the chance to, hopefully, spot the animals that you haven’t seen as yet. The afternoon drive tends to extend into the early evening, however, this is dependant on park gate opening and closing times, which varies from season to season.

After your game drive, we’ll return to Outlook Lodge Sabi River for dinner, where our chefs will introduce what’s on the menu this evening. This time with your fellow guests is great for getting to know them and chatting to them about some of your and their best memories on this safari thus far. It’ll then be time to return to your accommodation for a good night’s sleep. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Day 4: Your final day

Staying in the heart of the tranquil African bush is a truly magical experience! We will meet in our dining tent for a strong cup of tea or coffee and snacks before our final game drive. Hopefully, on this safari, you’ll find the animals that you haven’t as yet - be sure to tell your guide if there is still something you’d like to see. While they can’t guarantee these sightings, they’ll at least have a good idea of what to look out for.

Following your morning drive in the Kruger National Park, you’ll enjoy a 2-course breakfast back at Outlook Lodge Sabi River, prepared lovingly by our chefs. It’ll then be time for your drive back to Johannesburg and once you’ve said your goodbyes, we’ll make the 6 to 7-hour journey back. We’ll also stop half way to grab a bite to eat (own expense).

It’s important to remember that we cannot guarantee what time we’ll arrive back in Johannesburg and usually advise guests to rather stay the night at one of the lodges near the airport. (Breakfast included)

Optional Extras

- Panorama Route -

Explore the incredible Panorama Route with our full-day tour. It covers the best sights of this well-known sightseeing route and includes stops like the Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window and the glass elevator near the town of Graskop. Our safari guests are able to do this tour at an additional cost of ZAR 795.00 per person, however, this tour needs to be pre-booked with your consultant when you confirm your safari. Please note that should you choose to embark on our Panorama Route tour, you will miss your morning and afternoon drive in the Kruger Park, on that day, as there is not enough time to do both. You, unfortunately, won’t be able to book a Panorama Route tour while on safari. (This excursion is not available on the first or last day of your safari due to time constraints). All entry fees and the glass elevator are included in the price. Lunch is excluded.

Please note that optional extras that are pre-booked are non-refundable in the event that you decide to no longer participate in the activity.

On our safaris, we make use of facilities and accommodation bordering the Kruger National Park, however, all game drives are conducted inside the park.

It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.

Please note that sunset game drive times are subject to change and availability on the day. These drives are conducted by SANParks, by one of their rangers and in one of their vehicles. There will most likely be other guests on this drive. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed on SANParks open game drive vehicles.

Although we welcome children on our safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on our normal game drives. This will be entirely up to the guide’s discretion and will be in order to ensure a pleasurable game drive for all our guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. We do not offer babysitting and as such one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private game drives for families can be arranged at an extra charge.

Guests flying out of O.R. Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19:00 (domestic) or 20:00 (international) in order to give us enough time to get you to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee our arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day we will not be held responsible for reimbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected. Guests flying out of Nelspruit on the last day may, depending on their flight details, not have enough time to see the Panorama Route. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge.
