Your Itinerary

Day 1: Your journey to Outlook Lodge Sabi River

Your Sabi River safari experience starts at our departure point in Johannesburg. Our shuttle to Outlook Lodge Sabi River departs between 07:30 and 08:30 - specific times are communicated to guests closer to the time of the safari.

Your journey to the camp is incredibly scenic and takes you through some of South Africa’s most captivating routes, past open fields and green, mountainous terrain. You’ll travel through the highveld and then on towards the beautiful Lowveld area. During this time, we’ll stop to grab a quick bite to eat (own expense) as well as stretch our legs.

Outlook Lodge Sabi River is located a mere 6km outside Paul Kruger Gate.

Once you arrive at the camp, you’ll be welcomed by our team before being shown to your accommodations. After a little relaxation time, where you’ll get the chance to take in the beauty of the South African bushveld around you, you’ll embark on the first game drive of your safari - a Sunset Drive with South African National Parks (SANParks) inside the Kruger National Park. You’ll be transferred to your departure point by our team.

The Sunset Drive is a truly special experience as it gives you the opportunity to try and find the park’s nocturnal species, which includes some of the big cats. Your SANParks ranger will also do his or her best to share info about the park as well as the abundant bird and plant life there.

You’ll then be picked up by our team and transported back to Outlook Lodge Sabi River for dinner. In the evening, meals are served in our specially-designed dining area, which allows you to enjoy traditionally-South African meals against a backdrop of open bush and a starry sky. (Dinner included)

Day 2: A timeless African bush experience

Your morning begins with an early wake-up call, coffee or tea and snacks, before your first game drive in the Kruger National Park. You’ll then hop aboard our specially-adapted open safari vehicles (OSVs) for the drive to the park as well as your game drive in the park with one of our knowledgeable guides.

Kruger safari game drives are usually between 3 and 4 hours long and allow guests to learn more about this world-renowned National Park as well as the wildlife and birdlife that reside here. You’ll also be able to hopefully spot the famous Big 5 - namely lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo.

After your game drive, you’ll return to Outlook Lodge Sabi River via Paul Kruger Gate for a 2-course breakfast. Our chefs are well-trained and do their best to prepare hearty, wholesome meals for our guests. You’ll then get to relax at the camp before lunch.

During your time at the camp, you may get to see some of South Africa’s well-known wildlife species roaming around as our camp borders the Kruger National Park. We often have elephant, buffalo, hippo and many antelope species visiting us. Hyenas and leopards are also found at our lodge.

After lunch, you’ll get to go on your second game drive of the day. As with your morning drive, you’ll meet at our dining tent for snacks before departing for Kruger Park. You’ll hopefully get to spot the animals that you haven’t as yet on this game drive, which extends into the early evening. However, park gate opening and closing times do vary based on the different seasons.

Following your game drive with Outlook Safaris, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner. Your chefs will introduce themselves as well as what’s on the menu before you dig in. Dinner time is also a great time to get to know your fellow guests as well as chat about some of your and their best moments on this Sabi River and Kruger safari so far. After this, you’ll retire to your accommodation for a great night’s rest. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Day 3: Your final day on safari

You’ll wake to the sounds of the tranquil African bush - a truly magical experience. We’ll meet at our usual spot for a refreshing cup of tea or coffee and safari snacks before your last game drive in the park. If there’s anything you’d still like to see on your Kruger safari - be sure to tell your guide. While they can’t guarantee sightings, it’s always a good idea to let them know.

After a morning spent exploring and experiencing the Kruger National Park, you’ll return to Outlook Lodge Sabi River for breakfast. You’ll enjoy a cold and hot breakfast before preparing for your journey back to Johannesburg. Once you’ve said your goodbyes to the team at the lodge, we’ll make the 6 to 7-hour journey back, stopping half way to grab some lunch (own expense).

Please note that we cannot guarantee what time you’ll be back in Johannesburg and kindly advise guests to rather stay the night and book any flights for the next day. (Breakfast included)

Notes

On our safaris, we make use of facilities and accommodation bordering the Kruger National Park, however, all game drives are conducted inside the park.

It is important to note that this is not a private safari and more than likely there will be other guests joining you on the game drive vehicles, air-conditioned mini bus transfer vehicles as well as in the dining facility.

Please note that sunset game drive times are subject to change and availability on the day. These drives are conducted by SANParks, by one of their rangers and in one of their vehicles. There will most likely be other guests on this drive. Children under 6 years of age are not allowed on SANParks open game drive vehicles.

Although we welcome children on our safaris, we reserve the right not to allow younger children on our normal game drives. This will be entirely up to the guide’s discretion and will be in order to ensure a pleasurable game drive for all our guests (including the parents). Should this be the case, a bush bumble (kiddies game drive) will be conducted after the normal game drive, especially for the kids. We do not offer babysitting and as such one of the parents will have to stay behind to watch the children. Private game drives for families can be arranged at an extra charge.

Guests flying out of O.R. Tambo Airport on the last day are reminded to not book any flights earlier than 19:00 (domestic) or 20:00 (international) in order to give us enough time to get you to the airport. We recommend that you rather stay over in Johannesburg if possible. Since we cannot guarantee our arrival time in Johannesburg on the last day we will not be held responsible for reimbursements of flight tickets, should we arrive later than expected. Guests flying out of Nelspruit on the last day may, depending on their flight details, not have enough time to see the Panorama Route. Private transfers for guests with early flights can be arranged in advance at an extra charge.
