4 Day Greater Kruger National Park Safari

A good option to really experience the wildlife, comfort and luxury that have become synonymous with luxury travel is lodge safaris in the Sabi Sand and Greater Kruger National Park area. See more of the country with a road transfer or fly to one of the luxury lodges in the Greater Kruger or Sabi Sand. Experience world class luxury and comfort and some of the best game viewing in Africa.

The Greater Kruger wilderness area consists of several privately owned reserves and is home to a vast wildlife population, including The Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant). Most of these reserves have unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park and animals traverse freely. These reserves include, amongst others, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve,Timbavati, Klaserie,Balule, Thornybush, Manyeleti and Kapama.

Private reserves usually consist of an association of freehold land owners, each with their own private luxury game lodges and areas where they conduct their open vehicle game drives, allowing guests a more private experience. Lodges focus not only on exceptional wildlife interaction, but also on more refined experiences which includes pampering at all levels, from their spacious luxurious rooms, to haute cuisine and widely recognized wine selections and health spas.

The majority of lodges include night drives and bush walks in their packages. Optional extra excursions can often be arranged such as Elephant Interaction, Hot Air Ballooning and visiting the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre. While some lodges do not allow children younger than 12 years of age, others cater especially for the youngsters with special youth wildlife programs to allow parents peace of mind and relaxation.

The breathtaking scenery of the Panorama Route, including the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels and God’s Window on the last day will help ease the regret of having to leave such an incredible place behind.

After arrival you will have some time to settle in and familiarize yourself with the lodge and its facilities before heading out on your first open vehicle game drive! All game drives are conducted in specially adapted 4×4 open game drive vehicles to allow our guests the best possible vantage point. The game drive will take around 3-4 hours.

Mealtimes are a sociable affair and served under the stars, weather permitting. Meals tend to be a combination of both international and South African cuisine, using only the freshest of ingredients.

greater-kruger_02Day 2 & 3: Private Game Reserve
Private Game Lodges offer two game drives per day, during which your experienced game ranger and expert local Shangaan tracker will share their extensive knowledge and love for the African bush with you. Due to a carefully planned and managed habituation process, animals and birds in the reserve have become accustomed to having the game drive vehicles in close proximity, without feeling threatened. This allows you to get really close to them and forms part of the appeal of the Private Game Reserves!

The majority of lodges offer bush walks after breakfast and guests are welcome to join this morning walk. The rest of the day is spent at leisure, relaxing in your room or at the pool. Lunch is served around 14h00.

The afternoon drive often extends into the early hours of the evening, allowing you the opportunity to spot some of the more nocturnal animals.

Dinner is served under the stars, weather permitting. The day ends with discussions around the open fire about what you saw today and the plans for tomorrow.
